Pine Needle Recycling at Diamond Peak will Close August 16thAug 5, 2009 IVGID’s Pine Needle Recycling Drop-off Program at Diamond Peak will close to all collection for the year, on Sunday, August 16, 2009 at 3 PM. Residents can bring clean pine needles to the site until that date. Initial estimates indicate the diversion of more than 250 tons of pine needles from landfill disposal since this season’s program opened in May, 2009. The Pine Needle Recycling Program provides a community conservation service to protect Tahoe Basin natural resources. The collected pine needles are used by restoration managers in large scale erosion control projects in and around the Tahoe Basin; pine needles used as mulch naturally filter water, improve soil nutrients, and prevent soil erosion. This program has diverted thousands of tons of pine needles from the landfill since 1997! The program offered free 7 day a week, drop-off pine needle recycling for Incline Village/Crystal Bay residents and a week of curbside pick-up service. The Pine Needle Recycling Program is made possible by IVGID Public Works, Diamond Peak Ski Resort and Waste Management.
