Good Day Sunshine!

“Will there be enough snow left for us to ski on this weekend?” The answer is a big giant YES. That was a phone call question I had today, (obviously from someone who is not a local), so I can guess how the rumors must be flying out there about how warm it is in Tahoe and how that is affecting the snow conditions. Actually, the conditions at Diamond Peak right now are amazing (especially if you’re a fair weather skier like me) and with the snow pack we have, and what is bound to still come, we are anticipating remaining open at least through our projected closing date of April 11th.
If you lived here you would be able to see that the Sierra snow is by no means melting away anytime soon. In the first half of February at Diamond Peak we reported 21 inches of new snow and in between the days it fell, it was consistently cold and cloudy which helped keep it intact. Add to that our previous base resulting from storms totaling over 60” in late January which equals what we have right now; a top base which is sustaining a mid 70” mark and a lower base which is still in the upper 40” range; and those are pretty good numbers for this time of year.
So yes, we do have enough snow to last through the weekend and then some. Good thing that the temperatures are still remaining cold enough at night to allow our groomers to what they do best, make it all nice and pretty for us to ski on in the mornings. (Those sunny days have nothing on us.) So get your ski gear, your sunglasses and your sunscreen and head on up for some winter-style fun in the sun. When the scenery is as beautiful as this, one more thing you don’t want to forget is your camera. Just promise me one thing-that when you get to Snowflake Lodge or the top of Crystal Express, you will stop, take a deep breath, and really enjoy the view of Lake Tahoe, then start taking pictures like crazy.
By the way...we would love to see your pictures! Go to our facebook page: www.facebook.com/diamondpeak to post your pics and give us a glimpse of the amazing time you had visiting Diamond Peak.
