Poker Run

Poker Run

Posted by dawn on Monday, January 5, 2009 3:25pm (PST)

So why do we call it a Poker Run when there is no running involved? That was the question of the day posed at the Hyatt Poker Run event held at Diamond Peak yesterday. I gained some insight to a possible answer to this question from some Poker Run savvy individuals at the resort but I'll just borro... Add Comment

Snow, wonderful snow!

Posted by dawn on Friday, January 2, 2009 2:04pm (PST)

After a few days without fresh snow, you sure do miss it around here! After today's snow, everything looks white and pretty again. Not that it isn't always gorgeous in Tahoe, but the snow on the ground and in the trees sure does makes it even more beautiful.... Add Comment

Happy New Year!

Posted by dawn on Thursday, January 1, 2009 10:03am (PST)

I hope you all had a safe and enjoyable New Years Eve! I was in bed by 8:30, knowing that I was going to be waking at 4:00 so I could get here by 5 to get the snow report out this morning. I was, however, awakened at Midnight by the "Woo's" and whistles of nearby celebratory party goers, ... Add Comment

Fair Weather Skiers

Fair Weather Skiers

Posted by dawn on Sunday, December 28, 2008 4:40pm (PST)

It's true. I am a fair weather skier. As much as I admire those hard core souls who endure the harshest of elements, I am not one of them. Working at a ski resort, it can be a little embarrassing to admit that, but it's true. Not that I don't like powder, I love it. I love admiring the way it fall... Add Comment

A VERY White Christmas

Posted by dawn on Thursday, December 25, 2008 9:13am (PST)

Wow, it is dumping BIG time. The road are pretty gnarly today, so if you're heading up make sure you have chains/snow tires, emergency supplies and lots of warm clothing, goggles, etc. Be prepared and drive slow. Once you get here, you will find tons of snow, wind and LOTS of fresh powder. If you... Add Comment

Racing at Mammoth

Hey everyone! This weekend I had my open giant slalom races at Mammoth Mountain. Well, it didn't go splendidly, but my GS is definitely a keeper. The first day I fell, but the conditions were tough and I thought I could get away with going straight. Then the next day, after the first run, I was doin... Add Comment

Last night we had our Diamond Peak employee Holiday party. The theme was, "A Very Tacky Holiday Party", with tacky decorations and everyone was encouraged to wear their tackiest holiday sweater. We gave out tacky prizes such as spam and fruitcake. (Thank goodness the actual dinner we ate... Add Comment

Opening Day 2008

Posted by dawn on Thursday, December 18, 2008 9:23pm (PST)

Opening day started off great. We had a good crowd turn out for our passholders BBQ and Community Appreciation Day. It was sunny most of the morning (but very cold) and in the afternoon the winds really picked up. It was super busy for me, the phones were non-stop! So I never did make it on the slo... I'm seeing green..

Posted by dawn on Friday, December 12, 2008 4:19pm (PST)

I'm talking about green on the radar, peeps. The weather forecast is reporting snow as early as 7pm tonight! Our General Manager just came in from outside and said with a grin, "it feels like it's cold enough to be snowing out right now." Temps are dropping fast, and they are just going to... Add Comment

Hey, I don't want to say this too loud but from the look of the 10 day forecast, 4 days are showing snow. Shhhhh...don't make a huge deal out of it, because if the snow Gods catch wind of any celebratory whoops or hollers they will immediately change their minds. (They are just way too temperamental... Grand Opening!

Posted by dawn on Sunday, December 7, 2008 2:23pm (PST)

The place to be was at the Grand Opening Celebration on Saturday. Wow, what a great day! We had at least 600 people RSVP, and I wouldn't be surprised if more than that showed up. It was quite a crowd! The lodge looked mahvelous, dahrling, and I do believe a good time was had by all. Emily Tessmer t... Add Comment

Rockin' and Ready to Go..almost

It's a beautiful 50 degrees out today. Unfortunately, the small storm system last week did not produce much. At this point we are in need of a really huge storm, and low daytime temps, but from the the weather forecast it's not looking too promising. What about a December 11th opening? Well, I can ... And the question on everyone's lips is...

Posted by dawn on Wednesday, November 26, 2008 8:59am (PST)

When are we opening?
The answer is tentatively December 11th, if we have enough snow. Unfortunately, the temps haven't been consistently low enough to make snow over a substantial number of consecutive days to allow any kind of accumulation.
A storm is coming in today; we'll see what it brings. ... Add Comment
